When shopping online look for trust seals to solve all your worries.

Be aware while shopping online!!

  1. You need to make sure that you are aware of who you are dealing with. You can do this by looking for a physical address, phone number and e-mail that is legitimate.
  2. Use your credit or debit card. This is the most effective way to be protected as a customer when shopping online. You must however look closely for a SSL security license that is at least 128 bit. If you see an unbroken key or closed lock in the browser this will also tell you if the site is secure.
  3. Make sure that you check the description of the the product closely. This is important to make sure that it is exactly what you think you are purchasing. That it is not used or a damaged item.
  4. Make sure they have a privacy policy. You want to look at their privacy policy closely to make sure they will not share your information with anyone else.

We learned the best way to be safe online while shopping was to look for a trust seal on the website. Website owners purchase these seals in order to make it easier for you to do the following steps listed above. Trust seals uses a third party independent company that verifies the Privacy Policies, Owner verification, and Security verification so that you don't have to. When the site is created by website designers and developers they will add this seal to the webpage which lets you, the consumer know that this site has been verified. By looking for these seals, it will help you to know that this site is safe for online shopping.

Trust Guard is one of the most effective privacy trust seals we have found due to the wording it requires in the privacy policy of a website owner.

I do agree that trust is important when choosing to trade with someone online. I recently came across a novel product that incorporates a lot of the features you mention above for establishing trust. It is called a Website Passport and contained the official government registration identity of the company operating the site, Google location maps, QR codes, Site ratings from Web of Trust, official government reports from Global Business Register....It was pretty cool actually. I saw it on the site http://www.globalbusinessregister.co.uk
